How Do I Meet My Student’s IEP Goals Through Remote Learning
As the beginning of the school year is near and my district has still not made their final decision regarding if we will be remote or in-person my anxiety is high. I know in my previous post the plan was in-person and I had my classroom setup in mind. I still have yet to get into my classroom to start rearranging my room. In my classroom where students will not wear masks or social distance, I am not feeling comfortable going back to the classroom, however I do not believe that online learning was successful for my students. I am starting my planning for remote learning, as I know part of the week my students will be engaged in online learning. I have been brainstorming different ideas and schedules to best meet the needs of my preschoolers with special needs. I spoke with many of my student’s parents to find out what they felt was the most beneficial in the spring for their kids. They all loved the videos that I made of circle time, read alouds, and short activities, but I felt that I needed more individual learning activities.
I stumbled upon boom cards this summer as I keep seeing them everywhere! I decided to try making my own that would meet the needs of my students. I have started broad areas such as story time and interactive questions and pre-k math skills. I am planning on using boom cards to make individual lessons for my student’s IEP goals. Many of my students have functional goals such as transitioning and attending, however they also have goals for following directions, answering questions, matching, sorting, etc. I can use these boom cards during my 1:1 sessions and to reinforce their individual goals when they are working on remote learning with their parents. I can also take individual data to help me update their progress weekly. As a veteran teacher (which really means old), I take a bit longer to learn the newest technology, so if I can figure it out you can too! Here is a link to a trial boom learning account http://bit.ly/BoomTrial. You can use boom cards to assign your students by linking them to your google classroom site too and then use these cards during your 1:1 sessions with students! I love the interactive part of boom cards and how the students get instant feedback and it also helps parents know what skills their child is working on. I have started creating boom cards that I will be using for my classroom. Here are some examples of ones you can make or that you can find on my TPT store. You can click on the pictures to take you to my store for previews of what they could look like. I’m hoping to make lots more as I am reading over my new student’s IEP goals and individualizing them. The two links below are specific for students with matching goals and answering questions to a story.
