Let’s go to the farm! One of my favorite themes to do with my preschool special education class is learning about the farm. Many of my students love animals and have some previous knowledge about animals that live on a farm. Many of them can also make animal sounds which is so fun to hear! I made a new farm activity that incorporates sensory bins, which is also my students favorite thing! I typically make mini sensory bins (if you have read my other sensory bin posts) that I use during our 1:1 or small group work time. The kids are used to the task of the sensory bins, so it makes it more successful to just change the content. I have used different materials in my sensory bins for my farm sensory bin, such as corn, beans, hay, or anything that your students like. I adapt the activity to my student’s needs depending on their goals and abilities. Some of my students are exploring the sensory materials and I may add farm objects or farm pictures in there and expose them to vocabulary. Others are able to match picture to pictures, identify colors or shapes, or play a game using the sensory items with a peer by turn taking. There are so many options! Here are some examples of my farm sensory bins:
You can make your own content for the farm sensory bin by using photos, pictures, and objects to add to your sensory bins. If you are interested in the sensory bin farm activities I have made you can find them here:
