Teaching special education for over 20 years has given me first-hand experience in the classroom and I am here to share what I have learned.
Finding creative, fun ways to motivate my students both behaviorally and academically has been my goal in the classroom. I’ve had lots of ups and downs throughout the years, but have found many simple tips & strategies that can make the classroom run smoother. These include creating safe, calming spaces within the classroom, focusing on communication to decrease negative behaviors, providing choice boards for communication & behavior, using motivating characters or interests to help children learn academic skills, adapting materials to meet the children’s developmental level, and utilizing data collection to target IEP goals, behavior, and academic needs.
If these are things that you are struggling with in your classroom, I understand and am learning and growing along with you! Let’s find ways to make our “work life” more fun, manageable, and peaceful!
I started my business journey in 2020 when I started making resources to share with teachers, however I have been mentoring and helping teachers for years in the school district that I teach in. One of my favorite things about teaching is collaborating with other teachers, sharing ideas, and successes. I love to problem solve in the classroom and figure out the whys of behavior and what we can do to make them more manageable for both the student and teacher. I also have a passion for helping the families I work with and providing them with strategies that they can use at home too.
I have always known that I wanted to work with children with disabilities. It has been my passion since I was a little girl watching my mom work as a home-care nurse for children. Besides teaching in a school setting, I have also worked as a respite worker, a nanny for children with Autism, and an Early Intervention Therapist. I have loved experiencing working alongside families in their home to understand what they experience on a day to day basis. Building relationships with my students and their families is my first priority.
Besides teaching, my other passions are spending time with my family, hiking, kayaking, reading, doing goat yoga and hanging out with my dogs and cat!
